Sophie Birtwistle remembers her Dad, Danny.

Sophie was the first person to get in touch with us, she sent a painting of her Dad at work which drew a lot of comments and helped get us started. Sophie's Dad Danny worked at Hartley's for 14 years. He was a keen historian, and would have been a real asset to this project.

Here is Sophie's Dad, caught by Nigel Saul's camera in the Mash Tun,and here is Sophie in her own words and those of her family...

Its good to wrap up this stage of our project about Hartley's and Ulverston with a look back at someone who made a real contribution to his workplace and his town and who is remembered by so many with great fondness and a smile.

Remember, Nigel's exhibition at the Sir John Barrow Cottage opens  this sunday June 27th, and his photo book will make its first appearance at the Hope And Anchor on the same day.

The photos will be on screen indoors from 3 to 5, we'll be around, and in the background Ste Tyson will play a gentle but Strange Brew of  soul and   psychedelia in the garden from 5-7.  So come along, follow the safety rules as asked by Dave and Joanne, and say hello.

IN OTHER NEWS...Next week we launch  our snazzy Ales Tales Box of Beermats, so keep an eye out  for an announcement.

All the best, and our thanks to Sophie for a lovely interview, a brew and the use of a sock to cut out the breeze across the mic.
